Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar's son, ‘Aryan Bangar’, recently made headlines for a significant life transformation. The young cricketer, now known as ‘Anaya’, has publicly shared her journey of gender transition.

Anaya Bangar's Transitioning Journey

A Promising Cricket Career Before the transition, Aryan showed immense promise as a cricketer. Inspired by her father's illustrious career, which included representing India in 12 Tests and 15 ODIs, as well as serving as the Indian cricket team's batting coach, Aryan displayed exceptional talent from a young age.

At just 17, Aryan impressed cricket enthusiasts with a mature and composed batting performance, scoring a patient 53 runs off 134 balls. To further hone the skills, he ventured to the UK in 2019, where he played for Leicestershire's junior county team. This experience exposed him to international-level cricket, allowing him to learn from diverse playing styles and conditions. Additionally, he claimed 20 wickets, demonstrating his prowess with both bat and ball.

A New Chapter Despite their promising cricketing career, Anaya's journey has taken an unexpected turn. His decision to embrace his true self has led to a challenging period as he navigates the complexities of gender transition and its impact on his athletic abilities.

The lack of clear and inclusive regulations for transgender athletes in cricket poses significant hurdles. Anaya's advocacy for policies that support transgender athletes is a crucial step toward creating a more equitable and inclusive sporting environment.
