Sandhya Marawi, a 30-year-old woman from Kundam village in Madhya Pradesh, exemplifies the power of a mother's love and determination. Thrust into a difficult situation after her husband's untimely death in 2016, Sandhya became the sole breadwinner for her family – three young children (Sahil, Harshit, and Payal) and her mother-in-law.
Facing financial hardships, Sandhya refused to let circumstances dictate her path. In a bold move, she defied societal norms and entered the male-dominated field of railway coolies. This wasn't just any job; it meant a daily commute of a staggering 250 kilometers.Every day, Sandhya travels from her village to Jabalpur and then onward to Katni railway station, a distance most wouldn't consider feasible.
Despite the physical demands and long hours, Sandhya perseveres. Her single-minded focus is on her children's education and well-being. Witnessing them struggle with daily meals fueled her resolve to find a solution. Now, she proudly stands as the only female luggage porter amongst 40 male colleagues at Katni station. Her story is an inspiration for countless others. Sandhya Marawi's journey isn't just about breaking stereotypes; it's a testament to the unwavering strength a mother possesses.
It's a story of sacrifice, resilience, and the unwavering pursuit of a better future for her family. While her request for a transfer to a closer station (Jabalpur) remains unanswered, Sandhya's spirit remains unbroken. She continues to pave the way for other women, proving that grit and determination can overcome any obstacle.
