This remarkable achievement places Kolkata at 84th globally among the top 200 scientific cities, surpassing even renowned research hubs like Edinburgh, Helsinki, and Geneva.

Following closely behind are Bengaluru (85th), Mumbai (98th), Delhi NCR (124th), and Hyderabad (184th).

The Nature Index ranks cities based on their contributions to high-quality scientific publications and highlights Kolkata's growing impact on the global scientific landscape. While Beijing retains the top spot, with Shanghai climbing to second, displacing New York to third, this year's results underscore the increasing dominance of China in the research ecosystem.
